Kasoa Toll Booth Turn Into Refuse Dumping Ground

Toll BoothSome residents around the Kasoa toll booth have turned areas along the busy road into a dumping ground, creating public nuisance.

Meanwhile, the continued dumping of refuse along the banks of the Korle lagoon, has worsened the state of the water body. The poor waste disposal systems seem to be attracting little attention in spite of several interventions.

The situation between the Kasoa police barrier and the toll booth is an example of what the problem looks like in many areas in the country. Various sacks and plastic bags of waste are heaped under giant billboards for weeks.

Just after the tool booth was another deposit of waste almost overgrown with weeds. Perhaps the most worrying situation is the korle lagoon.Residents around the water bodies have conspired to worsen its plight by turning the banks into a dumping ground.

The Korle- Bu traffic light end to Agbado was covered in filth. Some coconut sellers also join in the act by adopting certain areas as dumping ground.Waste is dumped right into the water body with impunity, further polluting the bad lagoon water.

A foot path leading to the Fire Service Head Quarter’s area was not spared either. The only remedy was burning of the refuse, which again disturb both the water body and pedestrian. The picture here could best be described as pathetic, as the people not only throw waste into the drainage but have turned it into a place of convenience.

With the Korle restoration and conservation project still in a limbo, one would wish that the authorities will act to halt these practices.
